Magazine Advert

After deciding that we would use Bens magazine advert as a final draft, we chose this as our final magazine advert. It is completely black and white which goes with the album cover and creates a brand identity. The composition of the images work well together, as Tuesday is looking down towards the right corner, attention is brought to the 'Out Now' title. We decided on using not a lot of text as we didn't want to take attention away from the photo, this happens a lot when it comes to Pop adverts.
Things included are -
  • Website
  • Instagram
  • Record Label
  • When its out
  • What's included
  • Artist name
  • Album name
We deciding on putting the Instagram link on the advert because of how socially active Taylor Swift is, she normally posts at least one photo on Instagram daily. Her website also links to merchandise and tour dates and other information we didn't want on the advert.
We decided on splitting the two images as then the top images fits better and writing isn't hidden by the background. It also draws more attention to the writing bit. We didn't want to add any star ratings as the yellow of the stars didn't harmonise with the rest of the advert, and we wanted the colours to look good together.

Editing the magazine advert

After Ben creating his idea for the magazine advert I started mine. Choosing the images was particularly difficult as if they had too much going on in the background then the writing would look stupid and overpower the image; so I settled with a less intense image with Tuesday included and then made the bottom photo black and white to lessen the busyness. Editing the colours of the images proved a task as I had never created a black and white gradient on Photoshop before, so I messed about with varying opacities before choosing a much more subtle gradient.   After settling with the images I started on deciding on the font and the writing used, getting this to match the album cover and the magazine was tricky because of the CD being in black and white the red colour  wasn't a problem, but because of this image being in colour there was a risk of it all clashing. The more time spent editing this advert the happier I am with the outcome.
